Nursing Home Turnover Rates Decline in 2025
In a comparison of turnover rates by department, turnover rates for Top Level Executives had the largest yearly decrease and declined to 22.12% in 2025 from the 2024 rate of 31.97%. While CNAs continue to have the highest turnover rates, they dropped slightly from 44.16% in 2024 to 42.34% in 2025.
The use of sign-on bonuses to attract new talent also declined, with only 55.61% of respondents reporting they currently offer sign-on bonuses, down from last year’s 65.44%. The average sign-on bonus increased slightly ($100 – $300) for RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, but declined for DONs, Dining/Kitchen Staff, and Housekeeping/Laundry.
This year marks the 48th annual year of publication. 917 nursing homes participated in the study and provided compensation data on 111,600+ employees, covering 47 management and 55 nonmanagement positions. 55.51% of study participants were not for profit facilities, while 44.49% were for-profit facilities. The results are reported according to revenue size, profit type, bed-size, region, state, and CBSA. The Report includes 19 fringe benefits, as well as shift differentials, actual/projected salary increases by department for 2025 to 2026, turnover/vacancy rates, and sign-on bonuses. Data in the study are effective as of March 2025.
While the latest Nursing Home Report is available for $400, the price for LeadingAge members is $325.
