LeadingAge was in full celebratory mode during May as we marked Older Americans Month, our annual opportunity to pause and reflect on the important contributions that older adults make to our nation. We launched a social media campaign to shine a spotlight on the month’s “Engage at Every Age” theme. We also honored older Americans by working throughout the month to support the work of LeadingAge members and to speak out for the people you serve.

During a discussion with LeadingAge and a coalition of other housing provider, HUD staff gave timely updates on a range of topics.


Among the most significant issues, the status of service coordinator grant funding for FY17,   After more than seven months without funding:


LeadingAge has created a series of Market Snapshot Reports on several long-term services and supports sectors. These reports give a brief overview of the size of the sector compared with others, data pertaining to that sector’s growth with trends and what our members are saying about the sector overall. These guides condense both qualitative and quantitative information in a quick reference format.

Both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committees have started their work on the fiscal year 2014 budget for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  

Each has established overall caps for discretionary spending and allocated funds to the Transportation HUD Subcommittees (T-HUD). Neither bill has been scheduled for floor action although we expect the House to take up their bill after the July 4 recess. Both may prove difficult to get through the floors of their respective chambers.
