Earlier this month, Eskaton Village Roseville became the first senior living provider in California to offer Amazon Alexa to all its residents in one community.

The new voice-first enhancements reach 100 seniors in assisted living and are built on the community's existing Smart Home capabilities. Residents can use them to turn lights on and off, adjust their thermostat, call the front desk, and ask for the events of the day.

Smartphones, smart TVs, and smart speakers are the hot items among respondents in a new study by Link∙age Connect. Survey respondents show increased Wi-Fi access and internet usage. Approximately 70% are willing to buy technology and are upgrading products such as television, tablet, and mobile phone.

Telehealth is much more than virtual health visits, said CAST Associate Director Scott Code while serving on a panel at World Health Care Congress 2019, held April 28-May 1 in Washington, DC.

Alexa, Amazon's virtual assistant, now has more skills in her set: the ability to share and receive protected health information. In a small invitation-only program, Amazon is enabling six organizations to teach Alexa HIPAA-compliant skills. Now, Alexa can be trained to check on a home prescription delivery, make an appointment at an urgent care center, and pull up blood sugar readings. Alexa can help patients manage health improvement goals, update care teams on recovery progress, and more.
