The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on July 18, 2025 announced implementation of new immigration fees required by H.R. 1, the 2025 Reconciliation Bill, including significant increases to the cost of applying for Employment Authorization Documents (EADs).
These fees take effect for all forms sent on or after July 22. Starting August 21, USCIS will reject any applications submitted without the required fees. For individuals applying for an EAD under specific categories – including asylum applicants, parolees, and those with temporary protected status – the new law imposes a mandatory $550 fee for initial applications and a $275 fee for renewals or extensions. These amounts are in addition to any standard USCIS filing fees that already apply under existing regulations.
