In light of the latest developments in Washington, DC, LeadingAge board chair Roberto Muñiz—in his latest video message to members—offers a timely refresher that caring for America’s aging population is not a partisan endeavor. And, he adds, “our mission to serve older Americans is not political.”
Yet, particularly now—with a new administration in the White House and new members of Congress—we are in a period of significant change.
One of the most pressing issues affecting our field is the flurry of executive orders issued by the White House, says Muñiz, president and CEO of Parker Health Group. “We are working hard to understand their impact on health care, long-term care, and housing for older adults.” In addition, budget reconciliation, now happening in Congress, could have significant impacts on our sector. That’s why, he says, “engaging with our legislators is more critical now than ever. We must make our voices heard to ensure that the needs of older Americans are prioritized, and that we continue to have the resources we need to support them.”
