On August 15, 2026, LeadingAge submitted comments on the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Request for Information (RFI) to update the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease. Our comments revolve around three core challenges our members face delivering high-quality dementia care: inadequate funding for both comprehensive services supporting life with dementia and for training of workforce with dementia-specific skills, along with a poor structural foundation for family caregiver education and support programs.
Our comments offer successful models such as PACE and adult day to delay dementia’s progress along with other promising programs. We advocate for expansion of programs that provide dementia-specific workforce training, and consideration for ad-on payments for providers serving populations of individuals with dementia.
