Hearing Technologies Improve Quality of Life
LeadingAge Bronze Partner with CAST Focus Hamilton CapTel has partnered with McKnight’s to release an e-book, “Hearing Loss: A Silent Chronic Condition – Staying Connected Can Promote an Overall Higher Quality of Life.” Download the e-book.
Studies show that hearing loss, if not addressed, can greatly impact health and quality of life. It can negatively affect everything from the ability to have meaningful doctors’ appointments to being able to develop and maintain social connections.
Technology can play a crucial role in mitigating some of the negative effects of hearing loss, according to Dave Blanchard, strategic business development leader at Hamilton® CapTel® and a CAST Commissioner. Technology also enables older adults to take a more active role in their health care, which is vital to quality of life, he said.
The e-book explains how technology can play a crucial role in mitigating some of the negative effects of hearing loss.
Maintaining social connections, addressing well-being, gaining and maintaining independence, and connectivity are all key benefits of hearing-related technologies.
In the e-book, Majd Alwan, Ph.D., CAST executive director and LeadingAge senior vice president of technology and business strategy, noted recent interest in and adoption of these technologies. Attention to captioned phones and captioning solutions for smartphones has increased significantly during the pandemic, among older adults and in the general population, he said.
In addition to social connectedness, hearing and captioning technologies can connect older adults and important community resources such as social services and medical professionals, Alwan said.
