On November 1, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released The Employment Situation, commonly referred to as the jobs report, for October 2024.
The labor outlook and unemployment rate are largely unchanged from September, with U.S. employers adding 12,000 jobs and the unemployment rate holding at 4.1% with the number of unemployed individuals remaining at 7.0 million. These figures are higher than those from a year ago, when the unemployment rate was 3.8%, and the number of unemployed individuals stood at 6.4 million.
The healthcare sector continued to show upward trends, adding 52,000 jobs, aligning with the average monthly increase of 58,000 over the past twelve months. Growth was most visible in ambulatory healthcare services (+36,000) and nursing and residential care facilities (+9,000).
National employment growth, particularly in non-healthcare settings, was hampered by hurricanes Milton and Helene and ongoing labor strikes. The November Employment Situation report is scheduled for release on December 6.
