As cyberattacks remain a serious threat to aging services and health care providers, it is important to understand your insurance’s coverage and costs. Scott Code, vice president at LeadingAge CAST, recently shared tips with McKnight’s Senior Living.
“Make sure you read the fine print of your cyber liability insurance,” Code told McKnight’s for the article “Cybersecurity vigilance, safeguards heralded to protect ever vulnerable senior living groups.” “Know the types of attacks or breaches covered, the specific expenses covered and their limits, the types of events not covered, and the conditions that would result in revocation of the policy,” he said.
Code also recommended that organizations invest in cybersecurity and staffing and a strategy for defending against cyberattacks. Training employees to recognize threats and carefully vetting and managing vendors are important, he told McKnight’s. The article noted that as the risk has increased, insurers are becoming more savvy at identifying vulnerabilities in their clients’ systems to help prevent attacks.
