September is National Workforce Development Month—an occasion to spotlight the many career opportunities within the aging services sector and to elevate strategies and tools that help to increase employee retention, which is critical to addressing the sector’s workforce challenges. Our members know that a strong staff translates into better quality care for older adults.
“The dedicated professionals who support and care for older adults are the heart of aging services,” said Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO of LeadingAge. “Our sector is rich with career possibilities. We’ll celebrate the many rewarding options throughout September and also highlight a wide array of relevant tools and resources members can use to help ensure their staff thrive and grow on the job. We know that in aging services today, there is no issue more pressing than workforce, and retaining staff and building their skills benefits both caregivers and provider organizations.”
Research shows investments in long-term care worker retention lead to better care quality, operational efficiency, and a healthier work environment.
