Matt Ammon Named Acting HUD Leader
President Biden has named HUD career civil servant Matt Ammon to lead HUD through the “next phase of the transition of government” while President Biden’s nominee to be the next Secretary of HUD, Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH), moves through the Senate confirmation process. A hearing on Rep. Fudge’s nomination has not yet been scheduled by the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
“These public servants, like so many across the federal government, are dedicated to serving the American people, not a political party or agenda. Their experience in government and commitment to service will allow this administration to take the reins as we prepare to get the pandemic under control and our economy moving once again. I am thankful for their willingness to step-up to lead during these difficult times and help us make sure the government continues to operate and serve the American people. Together, we are restoring trust in the federal government and building our nation back better,” President Biden said when making the announcement.
Mr. Ammon has held senior positions within HUD, including as the director of the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes, as general deputy assistant secretary of Policy Development & Research, and, most recently, as acting general deputy assistant secretary for Community Planning and Development.
