Norovirus activity has been higher than anticipated in recent months with a majority of outbreaks being reported in long-term care. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) offers several resources to assist nursing homes in preventing and managing norovirus outbreaks. NoroSTAT analyzes data to assess norovirus activity as reported by state departments of health in participating states. NoroSTAT combines subsets of NORS and CaliciNet data and is updated monthly. CDC also provides communication resources to improve infection prevention and control in your community. Of particular interest, CDC provides flyers to promote handwashing, as hand sanitizer is generally ineffective at killing norovirus.
