CNA rates continued their upward trend from the 2019 increase of 3.10%. In a comparison by state, the lowest rates were reported in Louisiana at $10.21 and Mississippi at $11.81, with the highest reported in Connecticut at $16.42 and California at $16.50. Data reported above represent the national 50th percentile.
These aides – or Basic Care Aides, as they are called in a LeadingAge-supported training program - help out certified nursing assistants with tasks that do not require a license. These aides may be current employees who were cross-trained – or, displaced workers from other fields.
Late July 27, Senate Republicans unveiled their COVID relief package. LeadingAge is currently reviewing the proposals. The package includes a reemployment bonus, and a retention bonus aimed at keeping workers on the payroll.

The national average salary for Directors of Nursing (DONs) in Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) increased 3.56%, according to the 2020-2021 CCRC Salary & Benefits Report. The 2019 increase was 2.43%. The national study is published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS) in cooperation with LeadingAge. Nationally, the average DON salary was $100,716.

On April 23, Dr. Nicole Lurie was a guest on the LeadingAge Daily Coronavirus Member Update, offering sobering thoughts about the state of testing for COVID-19.
Lurie, who served as assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2009-15, is now leading the COVID incident management team for the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Initiatives (CEPI).
