Need help building awareness of our field among students of all ages? Want to know how to reach people from different backgrounds to work in our field – e.g., veterans, those seeking a second career, immigrants, displaced workers, men as caregivers, and older adults? Interested in telling schools, local community organizations and those you meet at job fairs about the wide variety of jobs in older adult services? Running off to a job fair and need a quick checklist of what to bring with you?

HPOG demonstration grants provide education, training, supportive services and career coaching to low-income individuals who are pursuing health care occupations. Training for CNAs and home health aides is part of the program, along with training for other kinds of health care professions.

The reauthorization allows skilled nursing facilities and nonprofit organizations to be included as an eligible entity to administer the HPOG projects. During committee mark-up, there were no substantive changes affecting nursing homes or nonprofit organizations.

The students will be participating in specific programming, in addition to the general Annual Meeting sessions. The student program includes a welcome reception, lunch with LeadingAge mentors, a Leaders in Residence lunch, and Office Hours in a Student Union – complete with University banners. Over 30 students received scholarships to attend the Annual Meeting from the LeadingAge Student Scholarship fund.
