January 5, 2022 Washington, DC — The Board of Directors of LeadingAge, the national association of nonprofit and mission-driven aging services providers, heads into 2022 continuing with its strategic plan for 2021-2023, while redoubling efforts to address the sector’s complex and long-standing workforce challenges as well as resetting our country’s narrative around aging services.

“As we begin the third year of a COVID-related public health emergency, the impact and import of our mission-driven members is more evident than ever before. We know the public supports increased investments in services for older adults and families—and we will continue our push to build a better system to serve all of us as we age,” said Katie Smith Sloan, LeadingAge’s president and CEO. “I look forward to working with our board to provide essential support for our members so they will survive and thrive as the pandemic evolves.”

Mike King, national president and CEO of Volunteers of America (VOA), will chair the board of directors of LeadingAge for a two year term effective January 2022, succeeding Carol Silver Elliott, president and CEO of Jewish Home Family.

“I am excited to lead the 2022 LeadingAge Board of Directors,” said Mr. King, who has served on the board since 2015. “I look forward to continuing my work with board members and association staff to advance our mission. The challenges our field has faced during COVID-19 continue, and we are ready to help our members through the pandemic and beyond.”

The board is made up of executives from LeadingAge membership of more than 5,000 aging-focused organizations providing services to older adults across the care continuum, from skilled nursing to home health, hospice and affordable housing. The group provides strategic leadership, policy direction, and fiduciary oversight. Members shape LeadingAge’s activities during their terms, and influence how the association works to transform aging services.

LeadingAge welcomes two board members beginning new terms. Steve Bahmer is president and CEO of LeadingAge Florida, one of the national association’s 38 state partners. Ursula Robinson is the Executive Director of PACE of the Triad, which provides community-based services to enrolled individuals who need medical care and support to continue living at home.

In addition to these new members, board member Walter Ramos, CEO of Rogerson Communities, adds board secretary to his responsibilities.
