“It is phenomenal to see HUD’s request for $50 billion in mandatory money for housing.”

March, 28, 2022 Washington, DC — Statement from Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO of of LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services, including affordable housing for low income older adults, on the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s request for $50 billion “Housing Supply Fund” in the White House Fiscal Year 2023 budget:

“The facts about housing needs of America’s low–income older adults are simple: Demand outstrips supply. More homes are needed. And when services, such as onsite coordinators, are paired with affordable communities, health outcomes are improved. Today’s pledge, expressed by Adrianne Todman, Deputy Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Development at our Leadership Summit in Washington D.C., to ‘continue to do the right thing for Americans who need help with housing affordability,’ including older adults, is truly welcome news. It is phenomenal to see HUD’s request, included in the White House’s FY2023 budget released today of $50 billion in mandatory money for housing and $966 million for the Section 202 Housing for the Elderly Program. Our members look forward to collaborating with HUD in the shared goal of getting funds and resources – including more homes – to the right people at the right place at the right time.”
