LeadingAge Need to Know - 12.17.20

2020 Year In Review: Workforce Support & Development

This year, the coronavirus exacerbated an already overwhelmed and short-staffed aging workforce. LeadingAge has been here to help with members’ workforce challenges by providing quality education, research, and tools.
This spring, we partnered with major national employers to reach displaced workers from fields such as dining, retail, and hospitality. Through these partnerships—with organizations like Marriott, Hilton, and the Peace Corps—we helped you fill available jobs. And we made postings on LeadingAge Aging Services Career Center free to members. Thousands of jobs were posted using coupon STANDTOGETHER at checkout.
We also offered practical tips and education to help you support your employees’ wellbeing, given the constant stress you are feeling during this ongoing pandemic—as well as many leadership convenings and education opportunities to help you strengthen your organizations even in difficult times.
Looking to the future of our field, LeadingAge launched the LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program, designed to ensure that students can advance toward leadership positions in aging services. We also released a new study, Making Care Work Pay, which demonstrates that paying direct care workers a living wage has the power to reduce staff shortages and turn-over, improve productivity and quality of care, infuse billions of dollars into local economies, and offer financial security and independence of care workers themselves.
As we head into 2021 and look to the future of our field, LeadingAge will continue our focus on helping solve staffing issues. Visit the Center for Workforce Solutions anytime.

Following are the latest news and resources.

We are sharing the very latest with members with weekday morning email updates and live online updates Mondays and Wednesdays. Visit the main coronavirus page anytime.

Message From LeadingAge Board Chair

LeadingAge Board Chair, Carol Silver Elliott, offers this message to members:

We have learned so much this year. We’ve learned about ourselves and what we are capable of achieving. We’ve found courage and fight that we didn’t even know we had. We’ve held our teams together, healed our elders, communicated with families, and moved both literal and figurative mountains to do what needed to be done.

Carol reflects on finding the light among the dark days we’ve experienced this year. Read more now.
